Maine Unemployment Claim

 

It is possible to file for a Maine unemployment claim by phone, online or through snail mail.  The following information must be submitted: social security or alien registration number, the business name, address and phone number of each workplace you have been in over the previous 18 months, and the jobs you have held in the past as well as the dates when you worked them.

 

Those of you who are veterans separated from the armed forces in the last 18 months must send the DD-214 form additionally when you are filing a Maine unemployment claim.  Federal civilian employees are required to send the SF-8 or SF-50.  Once a claim has been filed, you will be sent the Benefits Rights Booklet and claim forms weekly in the mail.

Online Maine unemployment claim filing is possible either at home, at a Career Center or in your local library.  Online you can reopen an existing account, file a weekly unemployment claim or open a brand new Maine unemployment claim.  Phone filing is possible by calling the Unemployment Claims Center toll-free.  If you require an interpreter service you must press ‘1’ as soon as you are put through to the Claims Center.  Then you must inform the operator which language you wish to speak in.  During busy periods you may be required to wait a long time to get what you need from the Claims Center.  You might also be given a message to call back later on in the day.  If you call on Wednesdays and Thursdays, wait times will usually be shorter.  If you wish to file by mail you need to fill out and send W4-V, B9.2 and B-70, all vitally important forms when making a Maine unemployment claim.  All instructions for making claims through any of these methods are available with the forms which are, in turn, available at your nearest Career Center.
